WASHINGTON, February 28. / Microsoft is saying goodbye to Skype, as it will put an end to the service this May, tech website XDA Developers said.
The latest update urges users to switch to the Teams service, the web portal said. "Starting in May, Skype will no longer be available. Continue your calls and chats in Teams," the statement indicates.
The Skype platform was launched in 2003. Microsoft purchased it in 2011. "In 2017, Microsoft launched Teams, a collaboration platform built on the backbone of Skype, designed to compete with the likes of Slack," XDA Developers said. Microsoft has made no official statement about the Skype shutdown, the web portal added.
